John was born June, 1952 in Affton, Missouri. As the middle of 3 children, he was raised mostly by his mother and older brother. After receiveing a BFA in theater, he left for New York in 1975. He got his start in a theater production in 1978, and continued until 1987. Then he began doing TV commercials, only to eventually star in television and movies. His first big show was Roseanne, which debuted in 1989. Now he also does voiceovers and children's movies, and is partial owner of Planet Hollywood.
