Sam was born September 14,1947 in Omagh, Northern Ireland. His original name was Nigel, and was the middle of 3 children. He has a BA in English. For 6 years, he directed documentaries for a New Zealand company. The first film that debuted in the United States was "Sleeping Dogs". Then he began doing Australian films, but did not receive worldwide fame until "Jurassic Park".
